WE WON A GAME

It only took 6 games, but I can finally say that the Champaign Chiefs have won a hockey game this season. Since the last blog post, we've played 2 games: 1 on Monday and 1 last night. The Monday game wasn't close, with us losing 8-3 to Sacred Heart. I didn't play terribly that game and I scored another goal, but the highlight of that game were one of my teammates getting a bloody nose from being hit but still scoring a goal on the same play. All-in-all, this was a game to forget and is definitely not going to be the main focus of this post.

What is going to be the main focus is our 5-4 win last night against Decatur, where I also scored a goal. The details of this game (even though it only happened last night) are slightly fuzzier than the other games because neither the stats nor the game footage has been uploaded yet, so this post is working off of memory alone instead of having those things to pull from. We started off well, going up 2-0 thanks to goals from me and another defender who just joined the team, but that lead didn't last, and the other team tied it in the 3rd period. But then, something clicked inside one of my teammates who hasn't scored yet this season and he scored 3 goals in a row to send us up 5-2 with only half a period left. At this point, our lead was pretty much insurmountable, but we gave the other team a good chance and gave up 2 goals in the last few minutes of the game to make the final score 5-4, giving us our first win of the season.

Since it's been so long, I forgot how fun it is to win competitive games, so this win was a nice breath of fresh air for my enjoyment of hockey. As I mentioned before, the stats haven't been updated since our game on Monday, so this week's update is slightly behind the actual standings and statistics.

We were 1 of 2 teams without a win
